In 2018, the European Union's Joint Research Centre (JRC) developed harmonized test methods for electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) in water electrolysis cells. This initiative aimed to establish standardized methods for the characterization and evaluation of water electrolysis cells. The introduction of standardized test protocols should improve the comparability of research results, increase the efficiency of technology development and accelerate the market launch of hydrogen production technologies. The harmonization of test procedures helps to increase the quality and reliability of the data, which is crucial for the further development and optimization of electrolysis cells.
