As part of the European research project DELYCIOUS, a publicly accessible test protocol for different electrolysis technologies has been published. The document defines comparable testing procedures for proton exchange membrane electrolysis (PEMEL), alkaline electrolysis (AEL) and solid oxide electrolysis (SOEL).
The protocol combines defined operating conditions, load and voltage cycles, and accelerated ageing tests. Its objective is to provide a reliable data basis for the development and validation of advanced diagnostic methods. These methods are intended to assess the condition of cells and stacks, identify degradation mechanisms and, in the future, improve predictions of remaining service life.
Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) plays a central role in this approach. As a non-destructive, in-operando method, EIS enables the frequency-dependent analysis of ohmic resistance, electrode polarization and transport processes. The test protocol specifies regular EIS measurements under stabilized operating conditions, thereby systematically integrating the method into long-term and stress testing.
As a DELYCIOUS project partner, SIVONIC contributed to the development of the test protocol and provides its expertise in high-precision, multi-channel EIS measurement systems. In this way, SIVONIC supports the development of universal diagnostic and monitoring solutions for electrolyzers—from laboratory-scale testing to industrial applications.
